When Addison Greyer, a happily married mother of three, decides to re-enter the workforce, she never once considers that taking a job might unravel everything she thinks to be true about her life—that it would cause her to look deep within and confront fears she didn’t know existed. She couldn’t have foreseen how a chance meeting or a single day can change the course of an entire lifetime.
Like many women, Addison is defined in terms of marriage and motherhood, until she suddenly finds her life turned upside down by her husband’s decision to take a job thousands of miles away. When her tough-as-nails boss offers her an opportunity she can’t refuse, Addie is forced to make difficult choices. Those choices take her further and further out of the carefully crafted fairytale life she has created and lead her into an unknown world where things are anything but black and white: a world where she learns that desire is not only dangerous but deadly. In this world, all bets are off as she is forced to finally confront her past. As her past and present collide, she has to make decisions that for most are unthinkable, decisions that can tear her family apart, and perhaps even have fatal consequences.
Bedrock is a love story designed to showcase how the choices we make ultimately shape our lives. It serves as a reminder that in the end what defines us is not the big events, the monumental occasions. It’s the tiny, seemingly inconsequential moments in between. It’s proof that time passes and we cannot, no matter how hard we try, get it back. Bedrock is a story of love and grief that pretty much sums up the context of the human experience.
Due to heavy subject matter and sexual content this book is recommended for mature readers.
For those of you who prefer it straight up, no chaser: Mama to five. Lover of Life. Writer. Juggler extraordinaire. That just about covers it…
The extended version and in third person no less: Britney is married to a man she adores (when he isn’t driving her crazy) and is the mother of FIVE amazing kids, who (surprise!) also have a habit of driving her crazy, her best guess is that it’s genetic. In addition, she founded a local network for women in 2012, which has grown to almost 800 members. Currently, she occupies a job she loves- serving and running Austin Women’s Network. To further prove that she may in fact be certifiably insane, she decided to publish her debut novel entitled, Bedrock in May of 2013. Then and only then, could she consider her training to be an expert (life) juggler complete.
In her free time, you might find Britney running, reading, or spending time utilizing the wonderful venues that make her city great.
This is a great book. Although the first chapter did have me worried about what I was reading, in the end it all made sense. Britney King drew me in and made me want to cheer from Addison to be happy for real. The story is actually a fairly fast read, it took me just a couple of hours. Of course I didn’t want to put it down since I felt that I needed to know what was going to happen next. The more I read, the more I understood exactly why Addison made the choices she made and how she was able to live with those choices.
Addison grew up in a happy home, she just didn’t feel loved. She was raised by her grandparents and although they were kind, they were also sad and distant. So imagine her surprise when she is at college and bumps into Patrick. Instantly she knew he was the man for her, the one she had dreaming about since she was 6 years old. Patrick’s family didn’t like Addison, especially his mother. They dated all through college and eventually got married. When they had their first child who was colicky, Addison quit her job to become a stay at home mom. However when Patrick is offered a job overseas, she decides that she wants to return to work.
William Hartman is a powerful man who can have any woman he wants, trouble is he isn’t the type of guy who falls in love. Due to his upbringing all he wants is to succeed in business and be powerful. That is until one fateful day in an elevator when he meets Addison. After that encounter all he can think about is Addison. And what William wants, he gets. He draws her in and they begin an affair. However for William that soon changes into love.
When Addison starts helping her boss with a special assignment, her life gets hectic. But then slowly she realizes that she is happy with being the person she was before Patrick started making all the decisions. Can Addison make it through this without hurting her kids? Can she find it in herself to be strong enough to survive a horrific ordeal? Will William get what he wants? Or will he have to walk away?
