Catherine O’Chancey is a reserved, demure, and graceful submissive. All traits she trained hard to enhance when she discovered the world of Dominance and submission in college. In an attempt to start fresh after the unexpected death of her last Dom, Catherine moves to Dallas, TX to escape the shroud of darkness he left behind in her life. She has tried to fight the need that resides deep within her to submit, but finally has to admit she can’t for it is not a choice, but part of who she truly is. After months of mental preparation, she ventures back into the lifestyle by attending a coveted open-night event at Dungeons and Dreams, an exclusive BDSM club. Is it fate or coincidence that Catherine garners the attention of one of the club’s board members who happens to be on the hunt for the perfect sub – a partner who enjoys receiving pain and pleasure as much as he enjoys doling it out? Jayden Masterson is many things: a firm Dom, a shrewd businessman, and a gentleman. What he isn’t, is someone who partakes in relationships outside of contractual ones with his multiple, un-collared, regular submissives. While he likes rough sex, he is not an animal, and can find pleasure only if it is consensual. What his harem is missing is a pain slut; could there be one in his future? Upon meeting Catherine, Jayden feels an instantaneous spark inside him that has him wanting to know not just her body, but her mind. He wants to unravel her mysteries and discover her secrets. Through pain can they find the pleasure they seek? Can part-time pain lovers find full-time fulfillment when it’s not in their contract?
I joined the blog tour for the second book in this series, so make sure you check my blog this week for that review. Now back to this book, after reading book two first, I knew I had to get book one to see how Jayden and Catherine started on this journey. I am so glad I did because this one hooked me in the first chapter.
Catherine, or Erin, as she is also called, had just escaped a horrible situation with a former Dom. Battered and scared, she still decided the life style of BDSM was what she needed in her life. Gathering the courage and saving the money to go to an open night at the BDSM club she stands in line waiting to get in. This is when she sees the handsome Jayden walking to the front of the line. She knows her role as a sub, so she peeks at him with respect.
Jayden had pretty much given up on the idea of finding an appropriate sub for himself, but he felt he would give the open night at the club one more chance. Sure he had two others in his life that he could use for a quick release, but he longed for a sub who would handle and desire the same things as he did……….PAIN. He spots Catherine in line and arranges for her to be admitted into the club quickly. Could her of finally found a trained sub who knew how to show her Master respect. It appeared that Catherine could be his dream come true from just the way she stood in line and glanced at him. Shall I say the rest was history?
Jayden can’t figure out why Catherine overwhelms his body and head but he knows she is carrying a lot of baggage from her past and he is determined to find out what it is she is hiding. Does trying to help her heal and move forward really fit into his plans? Catherine knows she is falling in love with Jayden, but he made it clear that he wasn’t looking for forever, he just needed a current submissive now and a contract to provide the security that now would last a few weeks or months. So how does she handle her emotions and heart when her head is telling her that she can trust him and please him in all of his desires?
Through this book we find what Catherine endured at the hands of her former Dom, the horrific things that was done to her and it proves that she is one strong fighter. The author does a wonderful job of showing us the emotional transitions that Jayden and Catherine go through. Her description of events and characters are so well developed, it was easy to visualize in your head what was happening, which is important to me as it bring the characters to life for me. I can hardly wait for book three and I really suggest that you read this one before you start her second book A Divine Life. What a wonderful story of recovery, love, commitment and freedom.
