My review

Aoife found herself at the age of 40, raising two teenage boys, going through a divorce, helping her mother with her ailing father and desperately trying to hang on to a job that she needed in order to support her children.  Did she have time for a social life and dating?  No but she tried to slip it in on her free time.

This is a story of a middle-aged, newly single woman trying to find Mr. Right, or maybe just Mr. Sex for one night.  You travel through her life as if you are actually reading her diary.  Raising two teenage boys, one who wants nothing to do with his father, the other tending to try to earn his father’s love.  She navigates her way through life one crisis at a time and she shares her emotions with us during the process. What do you expect a healthy woman to do after four years of being alone and not having sex?  You expect her to experiment and that she does.

Trying to reclaim her life and her sexuality isn’t as easy as she thought.  After disastrous dates with men who worked in places she would buy her food and other items in, she discovered the only thing to come out of that is now driving across town to shop. So she turns to dating online.  Who knew going to a dating online site would bring such craziness to her, but some of her experiences are just down right funny.  She had me laughing as she talked about a first date that involved strawberries and whipped cream and ended with an  accident that left the man crying on the floor, to the sex God that took her away for a weekend only to tell her it wasn’t going to work out weeks later, while she was drunk. Then we were allowed to watch her handle the ones who just wouldn’t give up yet she had no desire to meet. How she handled those creepy men who sent her photos of their private parts.  Then to top it all off, she goes out with a Dom that seems to take things to far. Between jerks and doms………she just kept looking, never giving up on the search, till right at the end of the book…….did Mr. Right text her?  We will have to wait till the next book to find out.

This was an interesting read, constantly flowing and pretty much demonstrates the life which is full of chaos.  I didn’t find a great deal of intensity but there were some hot scenes just minus the intimacy and love. The author did a good job with developing the character in a way that makes us care about her. We are encouraged to feel her pain and to hope that she will find what she is looking for in life and yes even laugh at or with her while she struggles with insane men and rejection.   I will warn you though, it took me a while to get use to the terms and quotes, but it doesn’t take away from the story at all.  I will be looking forward to the next book in this series to see if she finally gets to be happy while watching her ex husband and his family move on and her sons growing up and establishing their own lives.  I adore how she takes things as they come and meets them head on.

Aoife is not a victim of circumstances.  I also love how the author made sure that the main character showed love and respect for her children regarding their father and her new changes in her life.  I can only imagine how difficult it is to write a story that will attract readers regarding a middle-aged mother who is learning to become a cougar.  I think the author did a great job at keeping things interesting, real and letting Aoife maintain her respect and dignity while trying to fill the roles of woman, mother, ex-wife, employee and daughter to two aging parents.
